Unibet Champion Hurdle

Sky Sports Racing’s John Hunt assesses the key players for hurdling’s most prestigious prize.

The jewel in the crown of day one of the Cheltenham Festival, the Unibet Champion Hurdle, may not be shining quite as bright as usual as the champion, Espoir D'Allen met a sad demise and the two-time previous champion, Buveur D'Air is on the sidelines.

The 2020 renewal still has the potential to be a terrific race but two of the classiest runners, Benie Des Dieux and Honeysuckle could easily do combat elsewhere and if they didn't show up, there is the prospect of another winner in the mould of Punjabi or Sublimity.

John Hunt’s Verdict

Unibet Champion Hurdle 2020
  • So CILAOS EMERY has to be the pick and chasing decent priced placings is often rewarded in this race too so Supasundae to pip Honeysuckle for second place. Good Luck!
