Magners Cheltenham Gold Cup

Sky Sports Racing’s Jamie Lynch looks at the leading contenders for National Hunt racing’s Blue Riband event.

Some are better than others, some take longer than others, some are more democratic than others, but each renewal of the Magners Cheltenham Gold Cup means something, because the Gold Cup means so much, to the season and to the sport.

Gold Cups tend to come in two shapes; either for the few, shaped by one or two stars, or for the many, where the race – and the market – has little or no shape to it at all, more of a free for all, and the 2020 edition has that feel to it, of a Gold Cup very much up for grabs.

Jamie Lynch’s Verdict

Magners Cheltenham Gold Cup Chase 2020
  • There are pros and cons to all the primary players in the Gold Cup, with various horses having various boxes ticked, not a full house for any of them. It comes down to personal preference, but also price, and the market seems to underestimate PRESENTING PERCY , whose approach is more positive than last year (when made favourite) and can call upon not one but two Cheltenham Festival wins as compelling evidence.
